Sony S1 to be Named “Sony Tablet S,” Available in September

6

As one company bids farewell to the tablet industry, another electronics giant is about to set foot to the Tablet Wars. After so many teasers, Sony has finally unveiled its first of two Android tablets.

The Sony Tablet S, which we previously refer to as the S1, is projected to be available in the market in the second week of September. It features a 9.4-inch screen with 1,280 x 768 resolution, 3-megapixel front-facing camera, 5-megapixel back-facing imager, a wireless keyboard and dock set-up, and micro-USB. The tablet is said to have the ability to “use all devices in the home” via its integrated IR blaster, and even the capability to “throw” media to DLNA-compatible hardware (even if it is not made by Sony).

In the software front, the Sony Tablet S runs on Android 3.1 with a potential to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich and is preinstalled with PlayStation Certified gaming apps, as well as Sony music, movie, and book services.
